چکیده

Aims. We report on ESPRESSO high-resolution transmission spectroscopic observations of two primary transits the highly irradiated, ultra-hot Jupiter-sized planet, WASP-76b. investigated presence several key atomic and molecular features interest that may reveal atmospheric properties planet. Methods. extracted spectra WASP-76b with R ? 140 000 using a procedure allowed us to process full wavelength range (3800–7880 ?) simultaneously. observed at high signal-to-noise ratio, continuum shows ‘wiggles’, which are likely caused by an interference pattern outside spectrograph. To search for planetary features, we visually analysed cross-correlated against theoretical different species. Results. The following detected: Li I , Na Mg Ca II Mn K Fe . All detected confidence level between 9.2 ? (Na ) 2.8 (Mg ). did not detect species: Ti Cr Ni TiO, VO, ZrO. impose 1 upper limits their detectability: 60, 77, 122, 6, 8, 8 ppm, respectively. Conclusions. detection first time. In addition, confirm as previously reported in literature. show employed this work can down ~0.1% spectrum ~10 ppm means cross-correlation method. discuss neutral singly ionised atmosphere

HIGH RESOLUTION LASER SPECTROSCOPY IN COLD SUPERSONIC MOLECULAR BEAMS COOLING, REDUCTION OF DOPPLER WIDTH AND APPLICATION

The cooling of molecules during the adiabatic expansion of supersonic seeded molecular beams is reviewed and illustrated by the example of NO -molecules. The reduction of the Doppler width by collimation of the beam and the cooling to low rotational temperatures brings a significant simplification of the complex NO -absorption spectrum and allows its assignment. The measured rotational tem...

Panoramic High Resolution Spectroscopy

Stellar populations in galaxies are vast repositories of fossil information. In recent years it has become possible to consider high resolution spectroscopic surveys of millions of stars. New high resolution multi-object spectrographs on 4-8m class telescopes (HERMES, WFMOS) will allow us for the first time to make large and detailed chemical abundance surveys of stars in the Galactic disk, bul...

High-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy

The evolution of photoelectron spectroscopy of neutral molecules in the gas phase from its first applications in the early 1960s to the present day is reviewed with emphasis on the description of methods that have contributed to improve the resolution. In early days, photoelectron spectroscopy was very successfully used to study the electronic structure of molecules. As the resolution improved,...

High Resolution Ftir Spectroscopy

In FT-ICLAS, the aim is to improve the absorption detection sensitivity. The experiment combines IntraCavity Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (ICLAS) with FTIR spectroscopy. ICLAS is a well known instrumental technique in which a sample is inserted in a cell placed inside a broadband, multimode laser cavity. The laser is operating in pulsed mode and intracavity absorption rises as the laser wave b...

High Resolution Optical Spectroscopy

This experiment will allow you to learn a specific optical technique with applications over a wide variety of phenomena. You will use a commercial spectrometer (a very common piece of equipment in research labs) to obtain the emission wavelengths of particular elements (e.g. mercury, sodium, hydrogen and deuterium) as well as to compare the outputs of gas and solid state lasers. You will be abl...
